Is artificial intelligence a threat to employment

Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a major role in improving industrial production and management processes. However, this technology also replaces many jobs, creating uncertainties among new job seekers.

It is an emerging technology and is becoming the key driving factor for the next industrial revolution. More companies are keen to implement artificial intelligence to improve their industrial production.

This new technology is highly efficient causing some old and outdated jobs to be replaced. Few scholars have also reported that artificial robots will overtake 95% of job positions in the hotel industry.

Many hotels have already begun to introduce artificial robots for delivery services. The same thing will happen in the news reading industry. A knowledgeable news presenter will be replaced by artificial robots, which will make fewer errors. ( Reference 1)

Artificial intelligence is also focusing on the improvement of marketing. It is increasing customer satisfaction based on innovation and growth. In terms of digital marketing, it is significantly using big data to reach customers.

Aviation industries will be improved

The aviation industry is highly critical and vulnerable. Outdated security protocols and systems are a major threat to a strong cyberattack. This may even cause weak authentication that is vulnerable to hackers and unapproved access.

Artificial intelligence and Machine learning can detect identification threats in the aviation sector. These two systems may detect any abnormal behaviors and provide basic patterns by evaluating massive volumes of information.

Those systems will help to maintain proper flight records, passenger information, and aircraft sensors. Any unlawful access and malicious activity may be identified easily.

Moreover, AI algorithms can further strengthen the security of aviation networks by finding malicious communication patterns and detecting security breaches. ( Reference 2)

Sectors that are at risk

Artificial intelligence is highly efficient and it improves operational capability. However, It also raised concerns about losing jobs in certain industries.

According to Goldman Sachs, AI tools will impact nearly 300 million full-time jobs globally. This may lead to a significant disruption in the job market. Banking, Finance, Media, Marketing, and legal services are at higher risk of automation.

Jobs that are at risk

Customer service: automated robots are now capable of handling certain portions of customer complaints and inquiries. This is a major disruption and customer service jobs are under threat.

Warehouse workers: robots and artificial intelligence are slowly overtaking repetitive jobs in factories and warehouses.

Drivers: autonomous vehicle technologies are now available and it is quite threatening for regular driving jobs.

Programming: programming comes under technology, but still some programming can be automated. Although, human interference will be needed for more complex and critical tasks.

However, certain professions will remain secure such as Artists, Writer, Nurses, Teachers, Social workers, Therapists, HR specialists, and lawyers.

AI creating new jobs

AI is also creating new jobs and industries. AI trainers, auditors, and machine managers are new roles in the job market.

Machine managers will look after the operation of AI systems and AI trainers will improve accuracy by providing feedback and rectifying errors. Auditors will ensure compliance by following proper ethics and legal framework. (Reference 3)

Findings

Artificial intelligence will be a threat to some jobs, but this new phenomenon has also created many new jobs. Machine learning is a new opportunity now and machine managers are in high demand. The aviation industry will be benefited heavily as we discussed earlier.

Industries such as Banking, Finance, Media, Marketing, and legal industries may face disruption from Automation. Jobs such as customer service, driver, warehouse worker, and even computer programmer may face automation disruption.
